The Importance of Oil Changes

We cannot overstate the importance of oil changes. This simple service does many things including extending the life of your automobile. We are going to talk about the benefits of oil changes below. If it has been more than 3,000 miles since you have had your oil changed, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can change the oil and the oil filter.

Lubricates the Engine

Motor oil lubricates the engine to protect the moving parts. Regular oil changes ensure that you have plenty of oil in the engine that is clean and fresh. This fresh motor oil does a better job of lubricating the engine’s parts because it is viscous. As motor oil ages, it loses its viscosity. Consequently, when this happens, the oil does not do a good job of lubricating the engine.

Keeps the Engine Cool

Lubricating the engine helps to keep it cool. Many of your engine’s parts move together and generate friction. This friction can heat up the engine and cause it to overheat. The motor oil reduces the friction by lubricating the moving parts to keep the engine cool. As such, you run fewer risks of having an overheating engine if you keep faithful to the oil change schedule.

Removes Dirt and Sludge

Motor oil also cleans the engine, which is crucial to your engine’s life. Dirt and sludge can damage the engine beyond repair. As such, motor oil picks up the dirt and sludge while it circulates through the engine. The dirt and sludge are removed from the oil by the oil filter. This is why you need clean motor oil and a clean oil filter in your automobile every 3,000 miles.

Improves Fuel Economy

You may not know this, but oil changes also improve your fuel economy. The lubricated engine runs efficiently and uses less fuel to produce power. In fact, many auto services improve your fuel economy including filter changes and spark plug changes. Get the most miles out of your automobile by having the oil changed regularly when it needs it.

Extends Vehicle Life

Finally, as we mentioned above, oil changes extend the lifespan you get out of your vehicle. If you are faithful about changing the oil, your automobile will get well over 100,000 miles. In fact, some vehicles can go more than 300,000 miles before the engine breaks down completely. One factor in the extended engine life is regular oil changes.
